what a consultation involves

In your consultation you will be asked to describe as much as you can about your current symptoms - how they started and developed, what makes them better or worse, and how your symptoms affect you.

You will also be asked general questions about your mood, responses to stress, personality, and reactions to food, the weather, and so on. Homeopaths are also interested in symptoms or complaints that have come on since some significant stressful event, for example, a complaint that started after bereavement.

In the first homeopathic appointment (usually lasting between 1.5 and 2 hours), you will also be asked about your medical history, and family medical history, so that your homeopath can assess your underlying susceptibility or predisposition to certain illnesses. The first appointment is comprehensive look at your health, and for patients with more than one health problem, or a complex health history, this may take more than 2 hours.

Based on the information that you provide, homeopathic medicine will be prescribed based on your symptoms, and your constitution, either in pill or liquid form. Sometimes treatment consists of only one or two doses. In other cases a regular daily dose is used.

Appointments are usually between two and four weekly intervals. Follow up appointments are more brief and look chiefly at changes that have occurred since taking the remedy. The length of treatment depends on the nature and duration of the complaint. You are asked to keep in touch between appointments, to update the homeopath of your progress, by phone or email.
